Biotage to Host US and UK Summer Program on the Application of Modern Tools in Organic Synthesis
(June 10, 2008) Biotage, a leading supplier of tools and technology for medicinal and analytical chemistry, announces that it will sponsor summer programs at the University of Richmond, VA, US from 21-23 July, 2008 and at the University of Edinburgh, UK, from 29-31 July, 2008. The programs, entitled \'Application of Modern Tools in Organic Synthesis\', last three days each and are ideal for newly-qualified discovery chemists and academics looking to learn about the latest practical approaches for rapid production of novel compounds. Biotage allows chemists to register and attend this unique program at a reduced rate through Biotage sponsorship.
The three-day summer programs in Edinburgh and Richmond will bring together industry and academic leaders and facilitate discussion on issues such as solid-bound reagents and scavengers in microwave synthesis, microwave-accelerated metal-catalyzed transformations, improved efficiency integrating synthesis and purification, and flow synthesis.
Throughout the programs, leading figures from academic institutions and commercial organizations including GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Merck, Abbott, Edinburgh University, Biotage, The Scripps Research Institute and the University of California will present a series of lectures on solid-supported reagents and scavengers in microwave synthesis, catalyst removal and reaction work-up solutions. Presentations will include \'Combining Solid Phase and Microwave Chemistry\' by Professor Mark Bradley of the University of Edinburgh, and \'Enhanced Chemical Synthesis Using Flow Reactors\' by Dr Paul Watts of the University of Hull.
Interactive workshops will focus on streamlining workflows with microwave and flash purification systems, scavengers, reagents and reaction work-up products. In addition to a wide range of lectures and practical workshops, delegates are encouraged to take part in poster sessions. Posters describing a range of organic synthesis applications will be on display throughout the program, encouraging knowledge sharing and interaction.
